2020: Everything but ordinary

The 2020 vintage kept us on our toes: first a late frost, then too little precipitation in the spring and too much in the summer, initially warmer than average and later quite cool.

But what we will remember most from this year was the harvest. Due to all the rain, the big challenge was to find the right time to harvest. “Do we harvest the grapes before they are exposed to rot, or do we still give them time to reach optimal ripeness?” – that was the crucial question for all winemakers in our region.

We started the harvest in mid-September and finished it in early November. Especially for the single vineyard wines, we managed to choose the perfect time: At the end of October, with ideal harvest weather – cool, dry, sunny and windy – we were able to bring top qualities into the cellar. The other wines also showed that the meticulous manual work of many readers and in many hours pays off.

In 2020, only great wines could be created when working with precision and without compromise. The wines show generally conciliatory, juicy and accessible. The lighter varieties and the Gelber Muskateller have a fresh, crisp acidity – just the way we love them. The single vineyard wines convince with depth, finesse and delicacy. We look forward to a memorable vintage, and hopefully you with us!

PS
This year we have prepared a special surprise for you: A Grüner Veltliner “Special Edition”, harvested extremely late in October 2019, pressed after 12 hours of maceration, fermented in tank and then aged for over a year in small wooden barrels. The result will be available to taste from May!
