Best Muskateller in the Kremstal

Muskateller has been one of the most popular aperitif and summer wines for many years, which is also reflected in the range: For the last Vinaria tasting of Muskateller Co, more samples of the current 2023 vintage were submitted than ever before – 180 varietal representatives from Austria’s major wine-growing states. Once the dominion of Styria, Lower Austria is increasingly proving to be an equal opponent. Particularly pleasing: our Gelber Muskateller has always been at the forefront in recent years. It also impressed again at the tasting of the 2023 vintage: with 16.3 points, it took 11th place overall, making it the best Muskateller from the Kremstal wine-growing region.

A grape variety with tradition

Gelber Muskateller has a long tradition at our winery. As early as the late 1980s, we were one of the first wineries in the Kremstal to produce single-varietal wines and to plant new vineyards with this variety. We cultivate it in three different, warm and airy vineyards, which are dominated by loess – where the demanding Muskateller feels most at home.

And this is how it tastes

Our Muskateller stands for crystal-clear, grapey fruit. There is hardly any other variety where the aroma of the grape can be found in the wine – the wine should smell like the grape tastes. Vinaria comments on the 23 vintage: “Cool, fragrant yellow fruit, very grapey, slightly velvety, balanced, nutmeg, flowers; elegant, crisp, quite lively, firm bite, lively, slimmer at the back.”
